The view over the Danube river in Bratislava, Slovakia.
You might not think of Bratislava as the usual destination of choice for most holidaymakers but the Slovakian capital is a cultural gem that sits either side of the Danube river and is the only national capital to border two independent countries (Austria and Hungary).
The city has some notable buildings and architecture, with old buildings including the St Martins Cathedral, Bratislava Castle, Devin Castle and the Radisson Blu Carlton Hotel which is one of the city’s most prestigious buildings. They also have some fine modern architecture with the Kamzik TV Tower and the Novy Most bridge, with its UFO restaurant, as one of the most famous modern landmarks in Bratislava.
The culture of Bratislava has also led to a lot of interesting buildings with the old Slovak National Theatre and the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra and there Neo-Renaissance styles being big tourist attractions. I should also give a mention to the Slovak Radio headquarters which is an upside down pyramid design.
The picture above is a view across the river looking at the Park Inn Danube building with St Martins Cathedral in the background.
